Carry a Sharpie

The answer is yes.

The question, "Is that a fucking Nazi salute???"

The answer: Yes. That is a Heil Hitler salute. And they are saying Hail Trump.

This happened in our nation's capitol, just days ago.

You can read more about it, here.

And here.

Meanwhile, carry a Sharpie.

I'm carrying two because I'm a bit of an overachiever.

Swastikas have begun appearing all over. Even in the Jewish neighborhoods of New York City, they are starting to pop up. We're fighting back in different ways.

If you see swastikas in your part of the country (or world) turn them into flowers, peace signs, words about love, what have you. They're not taking over our country.

Hate does not make America great.

Register Me First

Meme courtesy of Thorn Coyle

My late grandfather, a staunch Republican, said on more than one occasion: "What did they think was happening? Where did they think they were taking them?"

He was talking about the trains full of Jewish people, taken from their homes and villages in Nazi-occupied Europe, heading toward death in camps. He wondered what the non-Jewish persons, who weren't subject to this persecution, were thinking as the trains passed their homes. He wondered why they didn't speak up and do something.

I wonder what he would say about what's happening in the USA, today.

The horrors in Nazi-occupied Germany in part started with the registration of Jewish persons.

Guess what? There's a plan under discussion to "use extreme vetting," which would include a registry of immigrants from Muslim countries.

From The Huffington Post: 11/16/16:

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is reportedly being considered for the
post of attorney general, said in an interview that Trump’s policy advisers had also discussed drafting a proposal for his consideration to reinstate a registry for immigrants from Muslim countries.

Today's action: Tweet or make a FB status about standing in solidarity with Muslim people in this country. Who are you? Why does this scare you? Why does this matter to you? End your statement with the hashtag: #registermefirst.

Here's mine:

Hopefully, it won't come to this. Hopefully, this talk will go away. Hopefully, the hashtags will remind the racist hatemongers creeping into the White House that we are paying attention and they won't get away with it.

But if it does, I'm taking my white, USA-born, Wiccan-ass down to the nearest Muslim registry and registering myself. I hope you will join me.

IT'S NOT GOING TO BE OKAY.

I saw this on FB and nothing else has better encapsulated how I, and millions of others, felt last week.

Look, guys. We screwed up.

If we voted for Clinton, we didn't work hard enough to get more electoral votes for her. We didn't vote for Clinton....well, that certainly didn't help. If we didn't vote at all...yeah. No matter how we look at it, we let a man who has encouraged violence, war crimes, and more into the White House.

Trump won the electoral vote. He is going to be President of the United States.

Remember, he did not with the popular vote. He is not who the people want.

Yet a racist, xenophobic, violence-encouraging, easily shaken guy with absolutely no experience has control of the White House and the nuclear codes.

This is not okay. We are in serious trouble.

Do not approach this optimism. The "softer" Trump we saw in interview the last two days, is not the "real Trump."

I was planning on launching this blog on January 20th, but it turns out I can't wait that long.

Today, we've learned that Trump wants Stephen Bannon as one of his chief strategists.

Bannon is a known right-wing nationalist with a racist agenda that even conservatives are criticizing him for.

Not scared, yet? Read through some of the things he's said and the stories his newspaper ran.

There is absolutely NO way we can let Trump let this person in the White House.

Your Task Today:

1.) Make Three Phone Calls: One to your Representative, and one to each of your Senators.

2.) To find your Representative and their contact information, go to this link.

3.) To find your Senators and their contact information, go to this link.

Tell them to speak out against this appointment--to speak loudly, and speak often. A sample script is below:

My name is ________
I live in city/state/zip code

I oppose the appointment of Stephen Bannon to President-Elect Trump's White House staff. Please use your voice in Congress to speak out and speak loudly. We cannot allow hate to rule our country.

Be polite and firm with the person on the phone. Rest assured, they will log every call that comes in, including yours.

It takes ten minutes--if that. If no one picks up, leave a message. Let's jam the phones.

We have a lot of work to do, friends....good luck.
